I been playing Guild Wars since it began 2 years ago, and I haven't really looked at the builds because I didn't wanna become lazy and scout for the "best" Ranger build in these forums. That being said, I was looking at the Hero builds and noticed a few Ranger builds that were pet masters.

How do Heroes acquire a pet? Do I have to manually tame the animal from the Hero's skill bar? If so, any recommendations to what to do?

Furthermore, can a Hero use your pet?

A hero can't use your pet.

In order to get a hero to get a pet, give them Charm animal and target the pet you want them to have. Then you just force them to cast Charm Animal. Just be sure not to have the other heroes/henches nearby or the animal will probably die.

To get your hero to charm a pet, you can
- equip your ranger hero with Charm Animal. (and you may as well equip Comfort Animal while your at it.)
- go to the area where the animal is, with a full party. Clear out any enemies around the area.
- flag your heroes & henchies far enough away that they won't shoot the animal
- use the individual flag for your ranger to flag it near the animal.
- just to be sure, take away the ranger's bow (temporarily put it in your inventory)
- target & shoot the animal once to make it angry

- click on your Ranger's "attack" button to lock it on the target animal.
- click on your Ranger's "Charm Animal".
- stand back and wait.

(There are some steps that can be left out or done differently, but this is relatively fail-safe)

If i have a hero ranger that has a pet i dont want anymore how do i go about getting rid of it in order to get a different one??

its always puzzled me...

Talk to a pet tamer NPC. You can find a list of where you can find one at the Pet tamer wiki page.

I was just about to ask that question too, thanks for bring it up. I followed Quaker's steps to a T and managed to snag a Flamigo for Dunkoro (secondary profession). Soon as It worked I wanted to get rid the lame bird.

A fun thing to do is to try to Charm a White Moa. You don't seem to be able to attack them, but my hero charmed it anyway, somehow.

LOL... yeah all my Ranger, Warrior, and Paragon heroes have Black Moas.
